Cozy Boho Mix in London Apartment

If her own apartment is a testament to her talent, London-based designer Leonora Hamill is one to watch. After a six-year stint in New York City, she and her family returned to the London of her childhood dreams by finding this treetop apartment in a South Kensington Square on the Internet and renting it on the spot.

Like most layered, maximalist design, her home is a little bit like a museum–in a good way!–and Hamill delights in curating, telling anyone who’s interested where this and that came from. The pillows on her sofa, for instance, are fashioned from vintage Japanese silks and gold liturgical vestments, the Braquenie curtains are hand-me-downs from her mother, and the blue velvet chairs are vintage 1950s by Gigi Radice for Minotti.

Would that we all could find a rental with such good bones, on-line no less. Even the vista from living room into dining room is stunning, made more so by the lovely furnishings.

And oh that dining room! I love the simplicity of the woven blinds and how she’s used them in the pass-through from the kitchen to create interest at all times and privacy when needed. The light is so beautiful filtering first through the treetops and then through the blinds.

I also love how the casual cabana tablecloth contrasts with the formality of the Art Deco Turin chandelier, the antique French-style cabinet, and the Wedgewood and Italian Art Nouveau table settings.

The primary bedroom sports an equally interesting mix of textiles. Hamill says her teenage years in Paris, where she trawled for treasures at Les Puces, sparked passion for textiles.

That passion is evident even in the bedding in son Sebastian’s room.
