Cheeky, Quirky & a Little Bit Buggy

Like nature, and that’s part of what Boston interior designer Cecilia Casagrande is known for. Perhaps it’s because after a decade in social work and public health she switched to interior design, which, judging by her last name, was fate. Or perhaps it’s just because she’s a force of nature herself.

“The way Cecelia uses unexpected nature motifs like bugs and birds in fabrics and wallpapers, combined with sleep midcentury modern and vintage, lends a dignified quirkiness,” says the owner of this 1895 colonial revival Casagrande restored to its former glory.

BTW, I love the bunny art over the fireplace.

And as if the first view of the living room wasn’t already to die for with that curvaceous sofa, the view to the other side is just as engaging with a Jonathan Adler sofa upholstered in blue velvet. It has a midcentury regency revival look to it, I think. Love the artwork over it as well. All in all, stunning!

I’m not real fond of the artwork, but I love the Arteriors sconce and the Farrow & Ball Hague Blue paint on the living room walls.

Casagrande envisioned Cole & Sons “Leopard Walk” wallpaper in the dining room from the start, but the owners didn’t come around to it until late in the project. Better late than never, I say, because it’s gorgeous.

I love the mix of greens in this room, including the contrast between the wallpaper and the Saarinen chairs. And I am positively in love with the askew table covering. Its colors blend beautifully with the area rug and seem to connect all the elements in the room from head-toe.

Here’s another fun wallpaper Casagrande used, this time in the powder room: Ms. Ward “Grow House Grow” with Victorian ladies and various critters. I love the collection of vintage mirrors, all painted to match in black, reflecting the wallpaper.

The kitchen mixes dark green and purple in the cabinets–such an organic combination– and features the owner’s collection of antique rugs.

The reds in the rugs bring a special earthiness to the space, don’t you think. I wouldn’t have thought to try that, but this gives me more courage to combine.

I love the mix of solid and print velvets on these stunning vintage Kravet chairs in the study, which play so beautifully against the antique rug. The chandelier in this room is my favorite in the house. I like its understated elegance and modernity.

The primary bedroom features a pale blush pink inspired by pink understones in the marble fireplace. Mouldings are done in a contrasting gray–an interesting combination that I fully endorse. More artwork in here that I’m not so fond of though.

Though this vintage print is cute! The en suite bathroom continues the marble and blush pink, but is topped off with a huge gilded tub. I’d love to take a soak in it but would need a ladder to get in and out! My eyes are drawn to the cafe curtains, done in fabric from Timorous Beasties.
