We Never Tire of the Divine Miss Marilyn

I’m following up last week’s post about Marilyn Monroe and Boho with some rooms where Marilyn is the inspiration. I also thought it would be fun to share what’s out there in the way of Marilyn products you could use to inspire your own Boho Marilyn decor.

A lofty idea…

…This Boho room looks like a warehouse loft with exposed brick walls onto which Marilyn images from one of her movies, The Seven Year Itchhave been painted. In reality, it’s wallpaper–bricks and all–and this is only one of many images available in this format. Check out the full selection here.

Icon to icon…

…In the 1960s artist Andy Warhol silkscreened nonrepresentational colors onto the photos of celebrities, including Marilyn, which instantly found their way into Boho decor. The web is abound with Marilyn images in bright, Op-art neon. Here is as good a place as any to start your search for the one that speaks to you.

Sans the silkscreen and neon…

…The web offers a bevy of Marilyn poses available in the medium of “ordinary” photography as well, though the subject remains all but. Start your search here. I’m guessing Monroe never imagined being surrounded by all this Louis XVI and chinoiserie. This photo originally appeared in Architectural Digest and is the master bedroom in the home of Brazilian architect Jorge Elias. See more photos of his Sao Paulo home here.

Aspirin anyone?…

…Could be all the attention is what gave the real Marilyn a headache when some reporter snapped the newspaper photo reproduced in these two Boho rooms. I found the first one on Message Note, amid 29 ideas for Marilyn rooms, and the second one on Top Celebrity Homes. It’s the former London home of Rolling Stone’s Ronnie Woods, which sold a few years back for the equivalent of $20 million. See more photos of this Boho bastion during its “Woodfest” years here.

Giant peel-and-stick wall decals too…

…The sheet on the upper left becomes the image on the lower right. Purchase here.  Though I’m guessing Marilyn would dig the one below more. I agree, it looks terrific with a shoe rack and would kick any closet up a notch or two. Find it here.

Don’t forget pillow talk…

…Yes, I know Pillow Talk wasn’t a Marilyn Monroe flick, but you have to admit these pillows not only talk, but they also talk BACK. Find them and many, many more Marilyn image choices here.

You won’t believe these…

…So the answer is yes, you can (a) sit with Marilyn watching your back, or (b) actually sleep with (your image of) her. These photos appeared with 30+ Marilyn-themed bedroom ideas on Home Design.

All told, these are MY favs…

…No, I haven’t made a place for Marilyn Monroe anywhere in my own home decor. This is how I want to remember her, in my heart. And one thing’s for sure: 36 years of her wasn’t enough. Her inner beauty and vulnerability will never go out of style.
