In my boho 20s I could barely afford the apartment I called home, let alone a headboard to dress up my bedroom decor.
I was so strapped for change that I felt lucky to have a bed at all, thankful that my parents passed along to me the full-size mattress, springs and frame from my childhood bedroom. That bed had a headboard, but I didn’t want it (too childish, I thought).
Oh how I wish I could have found something like this way back then…
I spotted this bodacious bohemian headboard DECAL in the Wayfair summer lookbook. It tricked me at first glance—I thought it was an actual fabric-upholstered headboard. It was cool enough that I took a closer look and discovered its true nature. I just love its bright boho colors and mandala design! And it certainly gives you the look of a massive, custom-upholstered headboard. It looks terrific with the blue bedding here, but you could pull out any of the colors to emphasize in bedding—red, yellow, black, white as well as blue—and dress with throw pillows in contrasting but coordinating prints.
What an easy way to brighten up a bedroom and get a statement-making look for little investment! And the decals are removable, so when you’re ready for a change (or that serious big-bed purchase) simply peel the imposter off and take your boho bedroom down a new path to home sweet home. There are as many decals to choose from as there are throw pillows (O.M.G.!!!), but I picked out a few that were especially boho to show you.
Go-go global mystique

My absolute favorite is #6. I love its dramatic curves, the turquoise background, and the height. What presence!!

This group could go glam-bo, hippie boho, or shabby chic. I love how the flowers are so huge on #7 to stand up to the decal’s formidable height.
Time-worn and true

This group has industrial leanings for all you boho junkers out there—the look of rusty metal and peeling paint without the mess!
Ancient Chinese secret

Remember that commercial? I’m showing my age again, but it was a 1970s TV ad for a laundry detergent additive. A customer asked the Asian laundry owner (no stereotypes there, huh?) how he got shirts so white. “Ancient Chinese secret” was his answer.
Ever since I’ve always been partial to pagodas and would have loved one in my garden back when I had a garden. Now that I don’t (have a garden) I might as well bring the pagoda on inside. This particular decal can function as a headboard or on its own. And all four of these styles will pack a “Chin-WOW!” punch into your boho home decor.

Those pineapples in #18 are the wildest I’ve ever seen. And I love how the circles in #20 give the wall dimension, like a big, fat body pillow (though it might make my head spin a bit if I’d had too much to drink).
Prices for headboard decals range from $30 to around $135, depending on size—twin, full, queen or king. Most styles can be found in multiple online venues, so shop around for the best deal.
